About Us

Welcome to Mini Munchkins Montessori Nursery. We look forward to provide the best quality EYFS and Montessori education to children from the age of 0-5 years.

We aim for our children to be independent and confident and show this through their enhanced social skills and their care and respect of themselves, their peers and practitioners, parents and their nursery.

We hope you will enjoy exploring our website and will come and visit us one day if you wish to consider sending your child to Mini Munchkins Montessori.

We believe that children’s early education should be a preparation for life. This should be a holistic approach that integrates mind, body and spirit to achieve a truly social school community in which personal relationships and skills are given the highest priority.

We are passionate about Montessori education. We provide an environment in which children develop on an individual basis guided from within by their natural curiosity and by the careful guidance of our experienced Montessori and Early Years Practitioners. This nurturing environment fosters self-discipline, self-confidence and an ability to concentrate. Our experience shows that this type of education provides children with a true joy in learning. We see the early years as a preparation for life and a foundation on which everything that follows is built. ‘Who’ a child is, we feel, is more important than ‘what’ a child achieves in the form of goals during this time.

Why Choose a Montessori Nursery

About Maria Montessori

Maria Montessori was born in Italy in 1870 and was the first woman to be granted a medical degree from an Italian University in 1896. She researched in psychiatric medicine and continued her education in philosophy, psychology and education. She was appointed as a professor at the University of Rome in 1904.

Montessori’s interest in the development of children started with disabled and mentally challenged children. She saw amazing results with these children and thus began her philosophies. She recognised the influence of the child’s environment from birth onwards and how it should be created to aid and foster the child’s independence and ability to adapt to the world around him.

Dr. Maria Montessori continued her findings and shared her work throughout the United States, Europe and India. She founded training courses, an institute for research in Spain, and Montessori Training Centres around the world. She was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize three times.

Montessori Approach

Montessori is an approach to a child’s early years-from birth to six years when children have the greatest capacity to absorb information when given the freedom and independence to learn at their own pace. What happens to a child during these critical years lays the foundations for the future. Dr. Maria Montessori’s scientific background and belief helped her to develop an educational approach that appreciates how children’s processes differ from those of adults. Her insights and approach to child development have been enormously influential all over the world, both through what has become the Montessori movement and through mainstream education, which has gradually accepted many of her practices.

The Montessori Method: The Unique Triangle – Child, Environment, Directress (Teacher)

Montessori recognises and celebrates the uniqueness of each child and the potential that they hold within themselves.

The Montessori classroom is a “Prepared Environment” designed to encourage individual choice and nurture self-development. The freedom that the child is offered is set within carefully defined limits and establishes the child’s need to see the effect of his actions on others.

The Directress is the third and final vital link to complete the triangle between the child and his/her environment.  The Directresses seek to guide rather than control. They are not there to impart knowledge or teach, but to provide opportunities for learning and to present the best possible environment to achieve this.
